Wanted to put it to the forum which you wanted to see more.
I'm torn between two ideas for my next writing idea, read this before you pick the poll
Fantasy Epic Adventure:
In a nation where magic is controlled by the government, a boy is discovered to be aligned with necromancy. Shortly after he is involved in an incident and stripped of his name. He must quest to save the world and regain his name.
Alternative:
A young man born in the territory of an undead lord is loosed from his feudal servitude days before he is to be converted to an undead by the actions of a group of heroes. Alone in the world he stumbles along, unaware of a dark destiny hanging over him.
Steam Punk Political:
A citadel rises from a sun scorched wasteland, within men and women toil in their assigned roles for most of their lives, hoping to rise up if only for their children to live in a higher level. Rebellion stirs in the depths of Delta level, and a young Beta finds himself torn between freedom and the power of the Alpha Superior.
That's three ideas, but I think that first one could be interesting. What happens if necromancy is your natural talent but you're still basically a good guy?
So here's an idea of my own that I might post here eventually:
It is the late 23rd century. After fifty years of devastating interstellar war with the mysterious alien Swarm, the Federated Human Worlds have forced the Swarm to retreat to parts unknown. Five years later there is still no sign of the Swarm, but there remain hundreds of humans infected with the Swarm's Trojan Virus. The Virus spreads in a person's body and awaits an activation signal, whereupon it converts the host into a superhuman terrorist. All known victims have been rounded up into stasis pods and stored at the Victory Institute, an asteroid laboratory facility dedicated to curing the Virus. One breakthrough has finally come, but it may have some unusual side effects. May feature goo girls.
well gaffer, necromancy, in itself, isn't truely and 'evil' art. It is simply the magickal manifestion of death, decay, decomposition, and the control over those forces. Some necromancy is in fact more illusionary, while other schools involve the user creating 'undead' from their minds, using magick and artifacts to stabilize them, almost making it like a branch of psionics!
Really Necromancy comes down to dead stuff. What you do with that dead stuff is... well... what separates a man whose JUST coroner from a man whose JUST a necrophiliac.
Cept there's magic involved.
as for your idea, it's like Halosetting with Prototype Deus ex Machina, and a little Ender's Game on the side.
Drawing up the caste system for the plot right now, and trying to find a job.

That may be the case in your setting but it would seem to me that necromancy would still be unfavorably stereotyped.
On top of that, the use of decomposing corpses, while neither good nor evil, would not be welcomed simply on the basis of the smell.
Well if anything Autopsies are mundane necromancy. Analyzing the corpses to find evidence of foul play. (A practice that only recently has been accepted legally, generally speaking)
