A bail bondsman or bail bond agent is a person or business who pledges money or property as bail as collateral that the criminal defendant will appear for their court date. Bail bondsmen are only in business to cater to criminal defendants and often secure their clients release in just a few hours. Bail bondsmen are almost exclusive to the United States. In other countries bail is usually set at a more modest amount and bounty hunting is illegal.
